Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art

The museum collects the works of artists from Rijeka 19th century and Croatian and foreign artists 20. and 21st century.

The museum has its roots in the Fine Arts Gallery, founded in 1948. Six years later, Salon 1954 – Exhibition of Contemporary Sculpture and Painting in FNRJ will be launched. It is the first collective exhibition of contemporary art production of the country at that time. In 1960 initiates the Youth Biennale, 1968. In 1960 International exhibition of original drawings, since 1990. represents Croatian artists at the European and Mediterranean Youth Biennials.

The institution was established in 1962. renamed to Moderna galerija Rijeka, and in 2003 to the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art. The museum works on several collections; these are collections of works by local artists Božidar Rašica, Romolo Venucci and Slavko Grčka, as well as collections of drawings, graphics, sculptures, posters, paintings, photographs and media art. Exhibition activities take place in Krešimirova Street.
