The concentration of museums, galleries and theatres in the heart of the city are what makes a visit to Rijeka, in terms of cultural and historical tourism, a very pleasant experience.

In the centre you can visit the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Rijeka City Museum, Rijeka Maritime and Historical Museum of the Croatian Littoral and the Natural History Museum of Rijeka.
There is also the Museum of Informatics and Technology “Peek & Poke”, a unique collection of over 2,000 exhibits of world and Croatian computer history. You should also visit the library and collection Mažuranić-Brlić-Ružić, which is located in a beautiful villa right by the sea at Pećine. The most recent among the museums is the PEEK+POKE Museum of Childhood, the perfect place for letting yourself into the nostalgia for the carefree childhood days.

Theatre lovers can choose between those for adults or children, the “Ivan pl. Zajc” Croatian National Theatre, the City Puppet Theatre or some smaller independent theatres in Rijeka.
Most of the galleries that art lovers should visit are located in the centre of the city and its immediate vicinity.

Cultural and historical tourism in Rijeka without visiting Trsat is almost unimaginable. Visit the medieval Trsat Castle, and the treasury and gallery of the Shrine of Our Lady of Trsat.

Art Cinema Croatia is very active in bringing programmes to Rijeka that do not lag behind the programmes of alternative cinemas of much larger cities.

To meet with history “live”, you only have to walk around the city, especially Korzo and its surroundings which hide numerous sights.
